7/ SEVEN

SELF-PORTRAITS

“7/Seven” is a series of 7 photographs containing 8 self-portraits, including one double self-portrait (made without using any digital manipulation). These are intimate small portraits, icons. They create intrigue, seven... what? The possibilities, unmentioned leave the viewer unsure as to their response, uncomfortable, off balance, what is the substance smeared across mouth, face and body? What do the expressions signify? These are strong and personal images with connections to Rembrandt’s history of self-portraiture and to his use of colour and light.

Since 2002 on my birthday, I have made self-portraits. Trying to capture a moment, a repeated moment and to document its passage through time's continual flight. "7/Seven" is a part of that project.
